The St. Mark's Episcopal Church is a historic church located in Huntersville, North Carolina. The church was built in 1886 and features a combination of Gothic and English Country Gothic style architecture. The red brick structure also features beautiful stained glass windows on the inside. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
This facility aims to help protect and conserve birds of prey, and is located inside the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, a short drive from Charlotte. It seeks to educate people about raptors, erasing misconceptions that society has towards these creatures, and tends to injured, sick and orphaned birds. Due to imprinting and contact with humans, birds at the center cannot survive in the wild. They are, therefore attached to their handlers, and pose no threat to visitors. With humble beginnings as a college center for veterans of World War II, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has now grown into the largest university in the area. The extensive research facilities and exciting athletics program draw in students from all over the nation, and venues like the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts, the Rowe Arts Gallery and the Halton Arena make it one of the city's main events hubs.
A little ways outside Charlotte in the city of Huntersville sits Rural Hill, a 265 acre homestead with pastoral views and farm animals to enjoy. Birkdale Golf Club has all the trappings of a classy golf establishment, a few miles north of Charlotte. 200 acres of lush green, designed by Arnold Palmer, await professionals and amateurs. However, tee times have to be booked 8 days in advance. Birkdale's Conference Room, Birkdale's Club Room, and Palmer Pavilion are all rentable spaces on the premises, available for business meetings, private gatherings and charity events. Part gallery, part studio space, the McColl Center is dedicated to two noble goals: providing local artists with a healthy and inspiring environment in which to work, and encouraging the surrounding community to become more aware of the art world. To these ends, the McColl Center functions as a traditional gallery as well as sponsoring community-building events such as “Open Studio Saturdays” where artists' workspaces are open to the public.
