Arts & Museums
The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art is a fitting tribute to Mississipi's legendary and eccentric potter - George Ohr. Having fallen prey to the damages of Hurricane Katrina, this museum picked itself quickly and continues to keep alive the undying spirit of the city's art-lovers. While the permanent collections and traveling exhibitions are sufficiently impressive, it's their events calendar which keeps the crowds pouring in. Art discussions, outdoor festivals and even black-tie gala parties are eagerly awaited and attended by all. Check website for details.
If you're in Gulfport, Mississippi with your little ones, take them to Lynn Meadows Discovery Center on Dolan Avenue. Dedicated entirely to inspire the next generation through kinestethic and interactive learning, the museum features several indoor and outdoor, educational exhibits all of which the little visitors can handle by themselves. A great place to learn while playing and having fun, Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is housed within an old school building of 1915. They also have several events and activities scheduled throughout the year, check the website for more on that. Although open all week, admissions on Fridays are free of charge.
The Pascagoula River Audubon Center educates people about our fragile eco-system especially that of the rivers and swamps. Environmentally-friendly to the core, this center is known for its extensive educational program which comprises a number of lectures, camps and walks for adults and kids.
