Outdoor Activities

»Myrtle Waves Water Park

When a water park advertises 30 thrill rides inside of 20 acres, you know you're in for a very wet, fun day. The adventurous slides have names like Turbo-Twisters and Pipeline Plunge while more sedate ones like the LayZee River and Ocean-in-Motion provide more tranquil pursuits. Admission includes all day rides, optional life vest, free parking, tubes, showers and changing facilities. The park also rents poolside cabanas and when you're hungry, there is a variety of options, Sharkie's Snack Shack for a quick bite, pizza at Pizza and More or full meals at Islands Cafe.

»Myrtle Beach Pelicans Professional Baseball Club

Myrtle Beach Pelicans are Class A affiliates of the Atlanta Braves. This is the real thing. Games are held at BB&T Coastal Field in the heart of Myrtle Beach. There are no obstructed seats and the field is small, so you can see (and hear) everything. There are races and games between innings, and prizes are often given out at the end of the game. Splish! and Splash!, the mascots, entertain and encourage the fans during the game and are often seen at Myrtle Beach activities throughout the year.

»Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures

Try a challenging rope course and zip across the lake at Broadway at the Beach. Harnessed safely, those who meet the height and weight restrictions can have fun "flying" 1000 feet (304 meters). There's also a rope course with 35 different features that spans three levels. Each level becomes increasingly more difficult. Combination zip line and rope course rates are available. For those brave souls willing to give it a go, this can be a lot of fun. Located next to the upside down Wonderworks building, this is one of the more popular attractions at this park. Check website for varying dates.

»Mt. Atlanticus Miniature Golf

Along King's Highway there are so many mini-golf places that it becomes difficult to choose which one to visit. Mt. Atlanticus is a good choice for the price/fun equation and its one of the fastest to complete if you're in a hurry. The park is well-maintained and if you sink a hole-in-one on the 19th hole, you get a lifetime pass to Mt. A.

»Build-A-Bear Workshop

This is one amazing place. At Build-A-Bear, you do just that, build your own bear, lion, cat, dog, rabbit, koala, panda or other animal friend. You can delight in watching as your new furry pal is filled with stuffing and stitched right before your eyes. Then, it's time to choose a name and create your pet's birth certificate on one of the store's computers. Finally, you get to pick clothes and accessories for the finishing touches. Lines tend to be long during the summer; plan on waiting one hour to get into the store.

»Carolina Backwoods ATV Adventure Tours

For most people, an ATV ride provides a somewhat adequate replacement for those who cannot ride a motorcycle, except that these four-wheeled machines can handle more rugged terrain. And sure, ATVs might be a little more dangerous than motorcycles, but here at Carolina Backwoods the owners only provide trails that are safe. Choose between the 'Down & Dirty' or 'High & Dry' trails, the former slings mud all-around and the latter allows you to go home with cleaner clothes. Another benefit is the fact that you can also stay in one of the cabins (minimum two-nights) which allows the whole family to stay & play.

»Myrtle Beach Boardwalk & Promenade

No trip to Myrtle Beach would be complete without a trip down the 1.5-mile boardwalk and promenade. It was completely refurbished and renovated in 2010 and now it is the city's centerpiece on the beach. The boardwalk stretches from the 14th Avenue pier to the 2nd Avenue one and along the way, the walk provides a mix of nature and nightlife. There are more tranquil spots near the beginning of the promenade and towards the middle is where most people find the restaurants, bars and shops. It's nearly impossible to miss it, especially if you're staying nearby.

This old-school pier is one of Myrtle Beach's most iconic attractions and for over 75 years it has been a mainstay on the Grand Strand. Almost everyone who comes to Myrtle Beach inevitably encounters the pier and if you're smart, you'll visit Pier View Bar or the Pier House Restaurant. Both are great places to enjoy world-class seafood and marvel at the equally impeccable views of the mighty Atlantic. On the pier itself, visitors can try their hand at fishing and even obtain a daily permit as well as rentals if you don't have your own. For more information, check the pier's website.

»Jurassic Golf

Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, Jurassic Golf is a great place to spend a couple of hours either during the day or at night. You'll swear you've been transported to Jurassic Park itself. There are two colorful, interesting 18-hole courses with dinosaurs and other reptiles that squawk and hiss and plenty of jungle to play through and around. One course has more obstacles than the other and can be considerably more frustrating for younger children. Both are a very entertaining. Cost is $6 for adults; children under 4 free.
