    »Wonderworks

Visitors of all ages won't be able to resist this curiously odd, three-story structure that appears upside-down from the outside. Entertaining, scientific and educational, the ceiling of the lobby is decorated just like the floor and it certainly belies the fun ahead for the inquisitive. Children and adults will find exhibits and displays, simulators, physical tests of endurance and games of fun. Experience the force of 84-mph winds in the Hurricane Shack, generate electricity by bike pedaling, lay on a bed of nails, feel the 28°F water that passengers of the Titanic felt, ride a simulated roller coaster, make giant bubbles in the Bubble Lab or try your hand at landing the space shuttle.

    »The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is a visual art space dedicated to the work of local artists. The quaint little house dates from 1924, but it was moved from its original location in 1975, when it was slated for demolition. Happily the historic house survived, and today it houses a permanent art collection alongside other guest artist exhibits. An art library and working studio are available for those who want to learn more about art and learn to paint or draw. Admission is free.

    »Brookgreen Gardens

This botanical/sculpture garden which includes a zoo is located near Murrell's Inlet about 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. These gardens sit on what were once old rice plantations and they are part of a larger 6000-acre nature preserve run under the guidance of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The gardens display more than 500 sculptured pieces of work interspersed throughout, whereas the zoo presents wildlife exhibits of South Carolinian animals as well as other creatures like birds of prey. However, the coolest thing about this place is their History Adventure Tour, where guests can take a 48-ft. pontoon boat up murky swamps to see alligators, or a trek by vehicle through the back-country that includes Antebellum plantations, Civil War sites and other interesting attractions.
