Bars & Cafes
The Sparrow opened its doors in 2012 and is one of those hidden gems that creates a lot of buzz. Offering a good selection of craft beers and delish gourmet hot dogs, it is more known for its live gigs and murals. The entire venue is done up with celebrity caricatures done by Douglas Panzone such as the ones behind the bar has George Harrison and Johnny Cash and on other walls you will find Ray Charles, Gary Busey with a Viking helmet and more. Some of their previous line ups are Hey Rocco, Man on Earth and The Fleeting Ends.
Located in the 1901 building for the original Crystal Ice Company and Clinchfield Coal Corporation, an upstairs bar and first floor restaurant exist here. Open since the 1970s, both have grown into a popular dining and drinking destination. The 2nd floor pub offers over 100 beer selections as well as creative fruit infusions and rums with fruit. No food is sold; however, they have free hot dogs on Saturdays and Sundays. Happy Hour begins at noon and lasts until 8p. Smoking is allowed, but patrons can take their drinks downstairs and relax on the back patio or in rocking chairs on the front porch. The downstairs restaurant is decorated with photos and memorabilia from the 1920s. Family friendly, there is a kids' menu. Parking is off-road along the front of the building. - Natasha Lawrence

Club Patrick is sure to be a fun night out with all the fun events that the venue has lined up for its visitors. From drag competitions to the standard DJ and clubbing fare, visitors are sure to find something fun and interesting regardless of sexual orientation. It can also fit 450 people standing, leaving ample space for everybody to enjoy a fabulous night.
No, this venue doesn't get its name from the popular 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' story, but rather because of its tin foil decor that appears to slither across the room when the flashing stage lights are worked into a frenzy. Besides the excellent live performances and DJ music at The Tin Roof, patrons can also gorge on some specialty hot dogs, which seem to be another reason why the crowds throng this place. The Tin Roof is a snazzy addition to the West Ashley bar scene, and it definitely makes all the cool cats this side of Charleston purr with delight.
Down off of Highway 17 in Charleston, South Carolina, there's a place where the air is sticky and the beach music blares till last call. That place is J.B. Pivot's Club and it's home to the preservation of Carolina's own beach music and shag dancing. On any given night you can walk in to find either a beach music and shag dancing vinyl party, or one of many local cover bands covering the old doo-wop standards. Drop in for a bit of nostalgia, or perhaps be introduced to a great era in American music. Call for event dates and activities.
A simple looking dive on the outside, this bar is the home of a super friendly staff and a delicious brunch menu that includes a range of classics like eggs benedict, grits and mimosas. There are no extras at this bar; just cheap eats, a range of drinks, and good conversation with locals. It's perfect for Sunday morning with friends or a cold one after work.
Get into the groove at The Royal American pub on Morrison Drive, any day of the week while in Charleston. This eclectic neighborhood pub, which is open on all days of the week, offers happening live music and an amazing selection of well-crafted beers and other beverages to complement your visit here. Try the House made Cinnamon Whiskey on the rocks or indulge in the rum punch and you are set for the rest of the evening. Visit their website to know more.
The Voodoo Tiki Bar and Lounge is a neighborhood bar sporting a kitschy, fun decor. There's a selection of craft beers and an impressive variety of tequilas, but the real draw are the tiki-themed drinks. Try the painkiller, a drink made of rum and fresh juices and served in a tiki head, or you can get the Voodoo Punch to share, a big drink served in a 32 oz bowl. Plus there's a menu filled with unique bar bites, like oxtail sliders or truffled tater tots.
The Recovery Room Tavern is a dive bar like no other. They pride themselves on selling cheap beer in a great environment (in fact they were the #2 sellers of Pabst Blue Ribbon in the nation in 2012). If you want something a little nicer though, they do offer a selection of craft beers and spirits. There are a variety of bar games to keep you entertained, like pool, darts, fooseball and pin ball. Plus, there's always sports on the TV to watch while you sip at a pint. There's even a menu of great bar food, like burgers and tater tots, for when you start to work up an appetite. Daily happy hours and weekly quiz nights round out an amazing neighborhood experience.
