»Museum of the Gulf Coast

Take a short drive down the Gulf Coast and you will find this beautiful mural-walled museum that has been open since 1994. Depicting local history from the age of the dinosaurs to present-day bird watchers, the museum offers attractions to please all ages and interests. Texas was admitted into the Union as the 28th state in 1845 and one of the rare original drafts of this historic document is proudly on display. Other special exhibits include paintings, artifacts, sculptures, Sabine Pass Civil War souvenirs, a musical history room and a Legends of Government room.

Exhibits at this museum including etchings, watercolors, prints, and sculptures by well known artists, as well as several Norman Rockwell prints, Texas history exhibits, and local history exhibits including models and artifacts of wooden ships. The Clifton Steamboat Museum Complex is a beautiful meeting place and entertainment facility for groups up to 650. Tours, programs, and special events are available for all ages, including school children, senior citizens, and everyone in between. The museum is available by appointment only.

»McFaddin-Ward House

This beautiful colonial mansion was built in the early 20th century by Texas oil and cattle pioneers, Perry and Ida McFaddin. Designed by one of Beaumont's first educated architects, it includes 12,500 square feet of space with sweeping porches, large white columns, fine furnishings and valuable antiques. The Colonial Revival style was equipped with many modern comforts for this early period of the century. Daughter Mamie set up a museum foundation to preserve the family's history and heirlooms for future generations to enjoy. Call for information about special events and group rates. Guided tours are offered throughout the day.

A Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, this authentic turn-of-the-century home, built by J.O. Sims, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This two-story home, made of prime native pine with a finished attic, balustrade porches, five fireplaces, and a slate roof, is filled with period furnishings, artifacts, and early Texas history rotation exhibits that depict the typical upper-middle-class home from the turn-of-the-century through the 1940's.
