The Weems-Botts Museum stands as an elegant museum site in the Dumfries vicinity of the U.S. State of Virginia. This enthralling museum finely depicts the history of Dumfries family and the site has been registered on the National Register of Historic Places.
Standing on the site of the original White Oak School which burned and was rebuilt in 1912 as a one-room schoolhouse, this museum contains a unique and extensive collection of Union and Confederate artifacts from actual Civil War battle sites and encampments around the Fredericksburg area.
This well preserved display house, which was bought by Sir George Washington for his mother in the year 1772, is located on the corner of Charles and Lewis street. It served as a residence for Mary Washington for 17 years until her death in 1789, and has been under the administration of Association for the Preservation of Virginian Antiquities (A.P.V.A.) since 1891. The house showcases the possessions of the house of that time and also comprises of a well-maintained garden.

Administered by the University of Mary Washington, the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library is dedicated to the life of James Monroe and his family. The museum houses a collection of more than 1,600 artifacts that were passed on by the descendants of the 5th President of the United States during the initiation of the museum in 1927. Today, the museum not only houses these artifacts but also more than 10,000 historic documents and 3,000 volumes of books inside its library. The museum and the library is open throughout the year.
James Monroe, our nation's fifth president, began his illustrious career practicing law in Fredericksburg and this museum contains a remarkable collection of the personal possessions, furnishings, and papers of Monroe and his wife Elizabeth James Monroe. A memorial garden is also on the grounds which includes a bronze bust of James Monroe by Margaret French Cresson, daughter of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
