Foxy Shazam is a rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio that breathed new life into the alternative rock genre with its 2005 debut album the Flamingo Trigger. After releasing its sophomore effort Introducing Foxy Shazam in 2008, the group began receiving critical acclaim from prominent sources like SPIN and Alternative Press, both of which labeled the band as a "need to know" act. »Drive-by Truckers

    September 06, 2014 7:00 PM

Like most alt-country acts on the scene today, the Georgia based group Drive-By Truckers believes in the undaunted power of analog recording equipment. The group employs no real synthesized instruments--in fact, the group has three guitarists--and when the band goes into the studio, it prefers to lay down its songs on two inch tape as opposed to digital recording methods, the industry standards. The nostalgic approach to song writing/recording that Drive-By Truckers employs is working to the group's advantage, however. The band has been a favorite of critics ever since it released its debut LP in 1998 and with a rousing stage show that highlights each member's instrumental prowess, Drive-By Truckers has proven to be one of the more rewarding alt-country bands to track.

    »Trapt

    September 07, 2014 8:00 PM

Since 1997, Southern California-based band Trapt have a part of a strong contingent of the power-rock (often referred to as butt rock) scene that emerged in the late 90s and helped define an era of commercially successful pop rock that would dominate at the turn of the 21st century. Trapt's lyrics are known for their angst-ridden themes, often filled with anger and disappointment at people's personal failings. Trapt's music is filled with tightly wound distorted guitars and drums to compliment their equally tense lyrics.
